First, if you want to replace it, consider the HK VP9SK. This polymer pistol has a bit more capacity, and a couple of small ears at the rear of the slide that help with the grip. This handgun isn’t similar to the original Shield as far as mechanics go, although there is a certain family resemblance. Instead, the 9mm EZ builds on the success of the .380 EZ. The new M&P9 EZ compared to a Shield .22.
Went to the range today after a thorough cleaning of the gun, and while shooting, noticed that 3 times during 70 rounds the slide did not lock open after the least round in the magazine was fired. This happened 3 times. Range officer suggested it might be a magazine issue and suggested that I clean the magazines.All I can find is this. The Equalizer is an internal hammer-fired design with a good trigger. It has a clean break at just a little over 5 pounds with a fast reset. The barrel is 3.675 inches long, which provides a nice sight radius for use with iron sights. The sights are white three-dot types, not quite the same rear sight as the other S&W guns.

It seemed to stick out much further and made shooting it a bit more uncomfortable. I took ot out this morning for the first time and fired 10 rounds through it. I use paper plates as my targets. All ten rounds fire smoothly and no misfire occurred or malfunction. The issue is that all ten rounds grouped low left about 8 inches below the paper plate target.

Everyone unanimously thought the Performance Center 9 Shield EZ looked great, but one issue most of them had was with the grip safety.
